 2008-2009 Officers Installation-

Thank you Judy, Demetrice, Donna, Guests and most of all my New Rock family. I truly appreciate you all attending this evening.

As I sat and tried to decide what I wanted to say to you my mind kept going back to an e-mail that I had received from Demetrice giving the incoming presidents the International Theme for 2008-2009 (and no I’m not going to reveal it -not yet). Instead I want to ask you to listen, think and most of all reflect on the following and what they have in common………

Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell, Martin Luther King, Jr., a potter, an artist, ants, and yes even bees.

Very difficult I know – but think about their lives, their careers, their purpose for existence. Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Graham Bell of course were inventors, who woke every day facing a new challenge and I would imagine laughter from some; Martin Luther King, Jr., - what a wonderful leader and teacher. One who led our nation through a time of great change. The remaining four are those that build, create, and mold things in our world out of necessity or for pure beauty.

Still not sure?

The reality is that they achieved great success - but not without failures. They never gave up – they regrouped and got right back to the work at hand. Imagine our world without electricity, telephones, art, flowers. A world where people were still separated by color. These were actions that in many views created perfection.

The 2008-2009 International Theme of “Excellence in Action” and the Georgia Division theme of “Excellence in Action, A New Season” will hopefully put all IAAP members into a mind set of setting and achieving goals for our organization and profession. As the newly elected President of the New Rock Chapter I would challenge our members to take a journey (Excellence in Action…..The Journey to Our Future) not as individuals, but as a team learning from each other. Will we make mistakes – absolutely; will we fail – not a chance. Not if we work together; learn from each other; tap into each others strengths and boost each others weaknesses. The Journey to Our Future as Administrative Professionals is a never ending one; one that changes daily and some times minute to minute, but as professionals we can put our training and expertise into Action and Achieve Excellence.

I look forward to working with you all on our Journey to Achieving Excellence.
